The Immortal Review

The ImmortalI can only echo the comment the comment of the one who posted the review of this game. The graphics were simply amazing by 1990 and 8-bit NES standards but winning the game is darn near impossible. More often than not, you'll end up killed by spikes, worms, acid, an enemy too strong for your abilities. A lot of this game was poorly thought-out. For example, try flying the magic carpet without crashing in to walls or being eaten by a worm. Also there are certain rooms you can only get in to if you insert the gems just right. There's even on where you have to install the gem and run around in circles just right to reveal a ladder. Another room that's a real pain is this tunnel-like room where you paddle and try to escape the tentacles of a monster. I have never seemed to have the ability to escape those tentacles. As far as I can see, The Immortal was much better for its graphics than its playability. If you want a much easier to play RPG for the original NES with excellent graphics, you are much better off checking Shadowgate.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Review

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's IslandMany of you are familiar with the first ever Mario game on Nintendo and Super Mario World on Super Nintendo. For those of you who have never played Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, you definitely should. Nintendo changed this game a lot form the previous version, but didn't ruin the amount of fun it provides.
In Yoshi's Island you are Yoshi and you go through the levels with Baby Mario sitting on your back. If you get hit by an enemy then you lose Baby Mario and he starts to cry, but you have 10 seconds to get him back. If the timer runs down to zero, he is kidnapped and you lose a life. As Yoshi you can "eat" the enemies and they become eggs which you can shoot at other enemies and at bonus clouds that hold coins, stars or flowers. Every red coin that you get that is hidden throughout each stage it worth one point to your score. Each star you collect adds one second to your timer. And each flower gives you 10 points. If you collect all 5 flowers in a stage you get an extra life, similar to collecting the Yoshi coins in the first Super Mario World. You can earn up to 100 points for each level (50 for all the flowers, 30 for all the red coins, and 20 for all the stars). If you get 100 points for each level in the game, you can unlock secret levels that are really awesome!
There are many stages in this game. In all, there are 48 levels in the whole game, only half as many as the original Super Mario World game. After you beat each stage you jump into a hoop and a light starts going around the hoop. If it lands on a flower you get to play a bonus game, if not you just advance to the next stage. It takes a while to get used to this game if you are a veteran Super Mario World player because this game is so much different than it. If you own a Super Nintendo and don't own this game yet, go to your nearest used video game store and buy it, you won't regret it.

Fighter's History(Super Nintendo) Review

Fighter's History(Super Nintendo)This game is a total rip off of STREET FIGHTER and a bad one at that. It's fun but only because you might as well be playing SF II. The characters are very similar and if some of you remember, this is the game that got people into an up roar because if it's vast similarities to SF II.
I'd skip this one and just go with the original SF II. If you;re looking for other great fighting games, check out FATAL FURY 2 SPECIAL, ULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT 3, STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 2 or even BALLZ. Really, do yourself a favor and skip this one!

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers 2 Review

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers 2Here is my review for "Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers 2" on the NES.I've waited a long time to finally play this game after trying to find a copy of it online. It is one of several Disney video games created by Capcom, the game company behind many excellent game series such as Mega Man and Street Fighter. This game is mainly a sequel to the game that is based on the show that both games are named after.

The plot for this game is about Fat Cat (Chip and Dale's archnemesis from the show) escaping from prison and stealing the Urn Of The Pharaoh as part of his plans to taking over the world. As usual, it is up to Chip and Dale (with a bit of help from Monteray Jack, Gadget, and Zipper) to stop Fat Cat and his henchmen. The gameplay is almost like that of the first game as well; you can chose to play as either Chip or Dale when playing solo (I usually play as Dale because he's my favorite chipmunk of the duo) or play with a friend (Player 1 as Chip, Player 2 as Dale).Just like in the first game, Chip and Dale could attack their enemies by picking up objects found in levels such as crates and hurling them at foes, knocking them out silly.Unlike the first game, however, the bosses are a bit more challenging to fight than the ones from the first game; and the characters in this game are much better looking than they were before, I might also add.

In conclusion, I recommend this game for anybody who grew up watching the show that this game was based on.Even though it's almost like the first game in every way, it's still a worthy addition to NES collections everywhere. :)

Mighty Final Fight Review

Mighty Final FightI don't know if I could call this game "Mighty" but it sure is a nice game for NES Double Dragon fans who are sick of having to press two buttons simultaniously to jump. More than just a Metro City brawler for the original Nintendo Entertainment System, MFF is basically Final Fight with cartoony characters, altered levels, and an ever-so-slightly different storyline.
What make this game better than it's Super Nintendo cousin are the inclusion of all three characters (Cody, Hagger, and Guy), female thugs (the "good girl" theory is NOT politically correct), an Experience Points system (get better as you progress), and the final boss being half-robot.
What don't make this game better than the SNES version are the frustrating difficulty, having to fight some bosses twice, still not having a two-player mode, and not having a good "bad girl" to play as.
Grafix: 8 of 10
Sound: 8
Gameplay: 5
Control Response: 9
Humor: 6
Difficulty: Hard
Note: I am perfectly aware of the real original Japanese Famicom Disk System. When I said original NES, I meant the first one to be released in the US. Also, MFF is compatable with the second NES model released in the US. Also, I know how to spell GRAPHICS

Star Tropics II: Zoda's Revenge Review

Star Tropics II: Zoda's Revengei remember playing this game years ago on the NES and remembering how fun it was, traveling through time, defeating zoda. though this game is considered a ripoff of the legend of zelda, it is still an amazing game that is deffinitely worth getting. both this game and the first Startropics have to be the two most overlooked an underrated games for the NES. a lost classic!

Crystalis Review

CrystalisI got this game from Santa as a Christmas present ages ago when I was a wee lad. I remember my dad and I played this game while my family watched around the TV. It was a once in a lifetime experience playing this game for the first time as a kid. I was very lucky to get such a great NES game, especially considering it's a more obscure lesser known title.

This game was so awesome. I still pick it up and play it again now that I'm in my mid twenties. The graphics are good for the NES. The music is good. The amount of weapons, magic, armor, items, and powerups you can get are amazing for an overhead RPG Adventure game from this era. And all the weapons and items are useful and placed well throughout the game to keep you from getting too powerful too fast. The controls are good, and the menus are easy to understand. Pacing and difficulty are just right.

I love the boss battles. They are all diverse and challenging. Your allies, the wise men, and the townspeople actually tell you useful information and the story is also interesting. I'm surprised at how little known this title is considering how great it is, especially for an NES game. But everyone I've talked to that does happen to know about this game loves it. If you are a fan of classic adventure games or RPG games, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. You won't be disappointed.

Vegas Dream Review

Vegas DreamI liked this game better than Caesar's Palace. This game offered more variety with four games, plus you'd get a random scenario every once in a while with either good or bad consequences. Someone could sell you a watch only for you to either discover its a fake or you get a lot of money for it, someone starts wooing you and you get married - either it's true love or s/he is a con artist who steals your money, and the like. You of course can say yes or no to any of these scenarios, but you never know if it's a good or bad choice later down on the road. And if you earn enough money (over 100k if I remember correctly) you get a nice bonus ending to your game. Definitely a lot of fun to play. This is a four-player game, but you yourself can play all four at one time at the blackjack table, if you like.
