Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? Review

Where in Time is Carmen SandiegoWhere in Time is Carmen Sandiego is the Super Nintendo port of the old ibm/apple II computer game. Carmen Sandiego and her band of crooks are stealing priceless treasures of history, and it's up to you to stop them.

This one holds up really well, and is a much tougher game than "Where in the World," which the SNES also got a version of. As most people are less knowledgable about history than geography, be prepared to do a lot of research. Sometimes you can travel to more than one time period of the same location, meaning you have to be extra careful to get your facts straight. The warrant clues are also a bit more obscure, with more crooks sharing the same blond hair, brown eyes. You might need to research the name of a painting to find the crook's favourite artist, for instance. Finally, the amount of time for each case varies, providing different levels of challenge.

On top of all this, the presentation has received a few enhancements. Graphics are still lower-end 16-bit compared to later releases, and there's still not much music. But the goofy bad guy animations are more fluid, and the menu feels like the inside of a time travel machine with a viewport looking outside. That and the amusing bits in the detective agency where you can ride the elevator, get coffee, etc.

Overall, still a challenging game even for the older crowd. If you liked Carmen Sandiego as a kid and still have a working SNES, it might be worth tracking a copy down.

Tecmo Super Bowl Review

Tecmo Super BowlOk, let's start with a disclaimer:If you didn't like Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES, then you aren't going to like this game.So there it is.

If you DID love Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES, then this game is a logical purchase for you!

Updated with the 1993 rosters (as of August 7th 1993), better graphics, and less flicker problems that plagued the NES version, this is literally the same game as the NES version.

The gameplay is almost the same...you'll find yourself rolling the first 4-5 weeks, notice the difficulty start increasing, and by Week 12 or 13 you'll have a heck of a time running OR passing.Fortunately, so long as you have a good defense, it's really easy to stop the computer.I think the most they've scored on me using the Steelers (and I mean, the Steelers are useless on offense in this game) is 14 points. The real joy of this game has always been playing head to head with another player.

You must judge this game against the others from that era (doing it against today's Madden games is just ridiculous), and in that comparison it's one of the best. You've got the full season, pro bowl and exibition options.Pretty basic.

The only reason I marked this game down a star is all the similarities with the NES game. Now, the next 2 (Tecmo Super Bowl II and III) allowed things like FA and trades, and definitely made the game much deeper. In fact, Tecmo Super Bowl II is one of the harder SNES games to get your hands on because of limited production, and if you were looking to get one, go after it instead.

Tecmo Super Bowl is a fun game to play and a great trip down memory lane.If you're a retro gamer and you love football, this is a must own and a very reasonably priced game to boot.

Turtles IV Turtles In Time SNES Review

Turtles IV Turtles In Time SNESTurtles in Time was the second Ninja Turtles arcade game released, but the fourth in a line of Ninja Turtles games released to home consoles, and the first Ninja Turtles game for the Super Nintendo. You play as one of the four turtles, and must fight through ten stages to get the Statue of Liberty back from Shredder and his goons. Halfway through the game, you'll be sent into a time warp that has you battling on trains, in the age of the dinosaurs, and the future.

Konami was on a roll when it released these arcade games in the early 90s, and Turtles in Time is the company at its best. Graphics are bright and colorful, with lots of animation and traps in the levels. Enemies are mostly Foot Soldier robots, but they come in multiple colors and carry varying weapons, to good effect. Each Turtle is different in terms of strength and speed, and each has a different special attack. There are also special moves including being able to toss enemies at the screen, and the controls are responsive. The music is also very catchy, and fits each stage very well.

Konami also went the extra mile with the SNES version. Instead of being a straight arcade port, they tossed in new levels and mixed up the bosses a bit. The additions make for an overall better game, and are welcomed.

Turtles in Time can be unlocked on the TMNT3: Mutant Nightmare game for Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox, but its the original arcade and not the SNES port. Although the game is rather short (you can literally beat it in half an hour), it packs a ton of replay value with friends, and if you own an SNES it's worth tracking a copy down.

Sky SharkThis game is every bit as great as other titles like Tiger Heli and 1942.It is challenging, but it won't be a disappointment for the first time player the way that other titles are.I like this game a great deal, if you like the scrolling flight games like the ones listed above, this is a must have...
