G.I. Joe A Real American Hero Review

G.I. Joe A Real American HeroThe two existing reviews for this game are kind of hard to follow, so here's mine.General Hawk has been kidnapped, and you must lead a group of his five strongest soldiers on a rescue mission. For each mission, you may select three of them. Some Joes are better suited to a specific area than others.

Each level culminates in a boss fight, and one of each set of three levels is a bombing raid, where you set explosive charges to take out the cobra base.

It's a great game, whether or not you enjoyed the figures or the show growing up.It's easy to learn, with a few tricky spots to it.It's hard, too; every time you beat the game you have to start again with one less soldier. You don't see the real ending unless you beat the entire game using only one Joe per level. (edit: I misspoke. The third time through you can still use two men, but the difficulty is ratcheted up another notch)

There's also a power-up system.Your Joes can collect gun icons which make their weapons more powerful, and chevrons, which extend their lifebars. This adds a strategic element to the game. The only annoying thing is that you lose some of them when you die.Fortunately, the game gives out passwords, so you can save your power level, but that means you've got to input the password each time.A minor quibble.

Great game.A real collector's item for real American heroes.
