X-men (Nintendo NES) Review

X-menGrowing up with the X-Men comics since the 80's, the idea of having a terrific comic book and a Nintendo game together would be like heaven. But no thanks to LJN who made some medicore, some enjoyable and some downright terrible games they had to get the rights to make an X-Men game and it was unleashed in december of 1989, it turned out to be a major disaster.

What's really bad about this abortion is that the graphics are truly messy and the character designs which looked good in the select menus are recycled characters that don't even resemble who they are in a way as X-midgets. Take for instance Nightcrawler in this game looks the same as Colossus as much as Wolverine looks like Cyclops and Storm. In this game you have 6 members like Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, IceMan and NightCrawler as you have to go through blocky looking mazes as you blast or nudge many enemies.

These enemies include centipedes, knights, killer springs and all sorts of weird as hell crap. The sound-effects is clearly unacceptable as it irrates and the graphics shown is very disasterous, but you have to look under the LJN logo on the cartridge to unlock the code to meet Magneto who looks like a red blob stain. The game is basically a birds-eye or Gaunlet style kind of game yet it's not very good.

I couldn't believe i rented this game as a kid back in 1990 for my NES and it truly blows, but after finding this game for cheap at one of the flea markets in Albuquerque it truly sucks now. If your an X-Men fan like me, i suggest to stay far away as far as you can.
