Darkwing Duck Review

Darkwing DuckI got this game in a lot with Kirbys Dream and Rad Racer and wasn't sure what to expect. Surprisingly this is a solid NES game. You really can't seem to go wrong in buying a Capcom game for Nintendo, and this game was no exception. It does bare resmemblance to Mega Man both in graphics and gameplay. Darkwing Duck is equippedwith a gun of unlimited ammo and can use his cape as a shield against enemies. Like Mega Man it's a lot of jumping on platforms, and you can change your weapons in a sub screen. The graphics are actually really good for NES and will remind you again of Mega Man. There are 7 levels with a boss in each one. The bosses aren't that tough and you can use unlimited continues to restart any level you die on. This is good but the tradeoff is if you shut the game off you have to start over from the beginning. So you'd have to beat the game in one sitting as there are no passwords for later play. It wouldn't be fair to compare this game to Megaman, or to even call it a knock off of it. On it's own it's a great game and it's actually pretty challenging for a kids game. However, seeing how there's only 7 levels and unlimited continues the serious gamer could probably blow right through this game. Either way gameplay and graphics won't let you down on this one.

Disney's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom Review

Disney's Adventures in the Magic KingdomCapcom was definitely one of the leading creators of quality video games for the NES. And Disney's Adventures In The Magic Kingdom is one of those great Capcom games.

STORY: Goofy has lost the six keys that will open the gate to the Castle in Disneyland, and so Mickey enlists you to help find the missing keys, which are lost within Disneyland.

GAMEPLAY: The game opens out with your character walking about the Disneyland map in a Legends of Zelda format. You can choose between five different attractions to ride and find a key. The levels include: The Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, Autotopia, Spcae Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Pirates & the Haunted Mansion rides are played in the traditional Mario style. Autotopia is a car racing level reminiscent of Mario Kart or Cobra Triangle. Big Thunder Mountain runs along the same driving idea, but you have no control over stopping the train. The most interesting level is Space Mountain, where Mickey gives you a button to press on the top of the screen, and you have a second to press it or damage your spaceship. By pressing the correct button, you press on in space.

GRAPHICS: As with the other Capcom games, the graphics here are superb for an NES title. The Disney characters actually look like their animated counterparts, and the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean levels are done beautifully. Some spots on the map look a little simplistic, but overall good.

OVERALL: A pretty good game overall, but some levels can get a little tedious after a few deaths (such as Big Thunder), but others, such as the excellent Haunted Mansion level, deserve play again and again. Some good replay value here, but not entirely thrilling each time around.

TECHNICAL:
1-Player
Choose your own name at the beginning
No saving capability
