The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse Review

The Magical Quest starring Mickey MouseThe Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse is one of the many games that Capcom made that had Disney characters during the "Nintendo vs. Sega" era.In this game, you play as Mickey as he tries to stop Pete and his evil presence.
As you progress through the game, you get access to new abilities that allow Mickey to do different things like when Mickey gets the magician's outfit, he can attack enemies with magic. The firefighter's outfit lets him spray water using a fire hose to do various things like moving blocks. The mountaineer's outfit gives Mickey access to using a grappling hook to swing off of certain objects.
In point in the game, Mickey can purchase items such as a larger capacity of magic and water or more health.
This game, however, is really short. And like most games made around this time, if you skip something, you cannot go back. There is a great plus in this game for people who want a challenge:The hardest difficulty mode is very hard!I could never get through the second level.

Darkwing Duck Review

Darkwing DuckI got this game in a lot with Kirbys Dream and Rad Racer and wasn't sure what to expect. Surprisingly this is a solid NES game. You really can't seem to go wrong in buying a Capcom game for Nintendo, and this game was no exception. It does bare resmemblance to Mega Man both in graphics and gameplay. Darkwing Duck is equippedwith a gun of unlimited ammo and can use his cape as a shield against enemies. Like Mega Man it's a lot of jumping on platforms, and you can change your weapons in a sub screen. The graphics are actually really good for NES and will remind you again of Mega Man. There are 7 levels with a boss in each one. The bosses aren't that tough and you can use unlimited continues to restart any level you die on. This is good but the tradeoff is if you shut the game off you have to start over from the beginning. So you'd have to beat the game in one sitting as there are no passwords for later play. It wouldn't be fair to compare this game to Megaman, or to even call it a knock off of it. On it's own it's a great game and it's actually pretty challenging for a kids game. However, seeing how there's only 7 levels and unlimited continues the serious gamer could probably blow right through this game. Either way gameplay and graphics won't let you down on this one.

Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse Review

Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey MouseFans of Mickey Mouse will rejoice over Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse (Mickey Mania for short). The game follows the famous mouse all the way through his glorious career, from start to around 1994.
Myself, I've never been a major fan of Mickey Mouse, but I wasn't really a non-fan either. My little brother got this game for Christmas and after finding out that it was a platformer (my favorite kind of video game), I knew I had to play it.
As I mentioned, the game goes in order from the start of Mickey Mouse's career, to around the year of 1994 or 1995, when this game came out.The first level is "Steamboat Willie," and Mickey Mouse fans will recognize many of the other famous stories that are levels later on, such as "The Prince & The Pauper," "Mickey & The Beanstalk," and many others.
The game's graphics and gameplay are very realistic to the famous cartoons. For example, the first level, "Steamboat Willie" is partly in black & white, just like the real cartoon was. Also, in the cartoon in which Mickey encounters the blue ghosts, those ghosts look like and are animated in exactly the same way in Mickey Mania as they are in the cartoon.
Gameplay wise, Mickey Mania is much like your typical 2D side scrolling action/adventure.You must guide Mickey Mouse through the several different levels and make it to the end of each one.In some of the levels, you just have to make it to the end.In others, there might be a famous Mickey Mouse character, such as the Moose Hunter or the Pauper, waiting for you. Finally, at the end of a few levels, Mickey will have to battle a boss such as a mad scientist, or Pete.
In each level, Mickey must collect marbles, which he can throw at enemies. There are also other items that need to be collected, such as yellow stars for energy, and extra lives.
For you history buffs, not only is Mickey Mania true to the cartoons, but it even tells you the real name of the cartoon and what year it was made.
Mickey Mania is great when it comes to graphics.Just about all the characters in the game are well drawn and look just like they do in the real cartoons. The levels themselves, and the backgrounds are also well-designed, and some of them are even 3D.For example, in one level, a moose chases Mickey Mouse. What's so great about this one is that Mickey doesn't run to the right or left, like the typical 2D side scroller.Mickey and the moose both run facing you, giving the level a 3D look and feel.
The sounds and music in Mickey Mania aren't bad either. The sound effects sound cartoony just like they should, and the music is good and catchy.Mickey Mania's controls are also well done. It's easy to make the famous mouse jump any distance, duck, throw marbles, or anything else you need him to do.
If you're a fan of platformers or action/adventure games, Mickey Mania would be a great game to get.Even after years of playing it, it's still a lot of fun to put in and play from start to finish any day of the year.In other words, Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse really is a timeless adventure.

Disney's Toy Story Review

Disney's Toy StoryTen years ago on the SNES, this game was quite a gem to have. Most video games based off movies aren't good. Most of them are, in fact, horrible. However, Toy Story manages to stay at the top of its game long enough for any gamer to admit it is an overall good game.

You play as Woody, traveling through the full length story of Toy Story. The game is comprised of seventeen levels with story sequences in between. Most levels are basic side scrollers where you'll progress through the level as Woody with a few bosses in there. The levels range in variety. Not just basic side scroll levels, but there are a couple of levels where you'll control RC and a few levels where you'll be riding on a certain toy to get through a barage of obstacles in your way.Woody's "life gauge" is at the top of the screen. He has five hit points. When they're all used up you'll have to restart the level.Luckily, throughout these levels there are checkpoints for Woody to fall back on.

There are fifty stars in each and every level of Toy Story. They're scattered around much like coins in Mario. If you get fifty Woody will get an extra life.If you come close he might get a few hit points restored instead. The levels aren't long and some of them are fairly simple to go through.

Graphically, Toy Story looks really good for a Super Nintendo game. The freeze frame scenes from the move are of the actual movie itself, and Woody and the other toys move quite smoothly. There are a few frame rate issues from time to time.Moments when Woody will abruptly slow down but the action around him doesn't.This could cost you more than a few hit points. Some levels, such as controling RC, are downright frustrating.

The music is a tough call.It isn't exactly the greatest sound track but it isn't bad either. It would've been nice if they'd borrowed more tunes from the movie. The music doesn't get repetative (there's different music for each and every level) but it just doesn't always sound great. Not only that, but some of the story sequences are horribly written.

The game does present a good challenge, however, as most classic Super Nintendo games. You'll find yourself in trouble a few times. However, I have to point out that even for a Super Nintendo game it's short. For a late Super Nintendo it's short. The game can be completed within a half hour.Compare that with other SNES games (that aren't RPGs) that take at least 5 or 6 hours to beat and you'll wonder if Toy Story is really worth the time.I'd say it is.It's fun, and it's interesting. For Super Nintendo junkies, you might want to get a hold of it.It's actually a game based off a movie that's good, and that alone deserves a peak.Just be glad that it's an old SNES game that actually comes at a fair price.

Disney's Aladdin Review

Disney's Aladdin"Aladdin" is definitely one of my favorite Super Nintendo games. You have to guide Aladdin through many fun and awesome levels such as flying carpet levels, an underground mine level, Genie's level, boss levels, and much more. You have to defeat the enemies and bosses by throwing apples at them or by bouncing on their head. The apples will only stun some of the stronger enemies and the bosses. In most of the levels, you can find a carpet and then use it the rest of that level to slowly float down to certain places by holding L or R.Holding Y while walking, will make Aladdin run and also make your jumps more precise. Throughout each level there are a lot of green gems, which, after you collect 100 of them, you will gain an extra life. There are also the other kinds of needed powerups and items such as one-ups and chicken or bread for energy. In every level in the game, your main objective other than to get through the level is to find as many of the red gems as you can, there are 10 of them in each level. To make it even better, there's a treasure chest in most of the levels which will release a flying beetle, and if you catch it, you will go to a bonus level of sorts where Genie will spin a wheel and you press a button to make it stop, and it can land on certain things that will help you such as 1UP, 2UP, and a Genie icon which will give you an extra heart (more energy capacity for the game). But to get to that bonus level, you have to finish the level after you catch the beetle.
Everything in this game is great. The graphics are colorful and detailed, the controls are top notch, the sound effects are good and you'll recognize most of the music from the movie, and best of all, it's a lot of fun, and I mean A LOT of fun.
"Aladdin" is one of the funnest games I've ever played for any system. There are passwords to help you out after each level, but you probably won't need them. This game is way too easy, but it's a lot of fun to beat over and over again while trying to get all the red gems, which isn't so easy.If you like action/adventure games that have a lot of replay value and that are fun to play anytime, I recommend getting this one.

Little Mermaid Review

Little Mermaid... but once I beat it, I didn't really feel compelled to play again. I played this when I was little and NES was the main system out there (along with SNES), back then it was easy enough for me to beat after losing some lives in the game and figuring out what worked against which enemy. Even Ursula herself wasn't that hard to beat. I saw this game at the video rental store and wanted it, and I'm glad it was just a rental, not ownership. It's fairly fun, the graphics are clean, the music's nice, but it certainly isn't a great game. Best for one boring afternoon or whatever, it is easy to beat this game under two hours.

Disney's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom Review

Disney's Adventures in the Magic KingdomCapcom was definitely one of the leading creators of quality video games for the NES. And Disney's Adventures In The Magic Kingdom is one of those great Capcom games.

STORY: Goofy has lost the six keys that will open the gate to the Castle in Disneyland, and so Mickey enlists you to help find the missing keys, which are lost within Disneyland.

GAMEPLAY: The game opens out with your character walking about the Disneyland map in a Legends of Zelda format. You can choose between five different attractions to ride and find a key. The levels include: The Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, Autotopia, Spcae Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Pirates & the Haunted Mansion rides are played in the traditional Mario style. Autotopia is a car racing level reminiscent of Mario Kart or Cobra Triangle. Big Thunder Mountain runs along the same driving idea, but you have no control over stopping the train. The most interesting level is Space Mountain, where Mickey gives you a button to press on the top of the screen, and you have a second to press it or damage your spaceship. By pressing the correct button, you press on in space.

GRAPHICS: As with the other Capcom games, the graphics here are superb for an NES title. The Disney characters actually look like their animated counterparts, and the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean levels are done beautifully. Some spots on the map look a little simplistic, but overall good.

OVERALL: A pretty good game overall, but some levels can get a little tedious after a few deaths (such as Big Thunder), but others, such as the excellent Haunted Mansion level, deserve play again and again. Some good replay value here, but not entirely thrilling each time around.

TECHNICAL:
1-Player
Choose your own name at the beginning
No saving capability
5 levels

The Lion King (Super Nintendo) Review

The Lion KingI do still have a Super Nintendo.I believe it was the best system of it's day, and I still enjoy playing games on it.The games, such as this one, are really good; even when compared to today's games. This game in particular brings back fond memories...I was first introduced to this game at a dentist's office (it was one of the games you could play in a small room while you waited for your turn). It was second only to a Sonic the Hedgehog game as my favorite game to play in there. My mom saw me playing it and thought that young Simba was so cute, she bought it for me.It's harder for younger kids than older kids, as it was more challenging for me back then then it is now.Still, I can remember when I first got past the "Hakuna Matatta" level, and Simba became an adult; it felt quite magical to control a young cub in the first several levels, and then see and control him as an adult in the rest.Beating the "Be Prepared" level, and defeating Scar were also proud accomplishments. The bonus levels were fun (my favorite being the Pumba one), and even when I did finish the game I played it over and over and over.I did, however, never leave the easy difficulty *blushes*.Still this is a wonderful game, with many pros and no cons I can think of.If your mom hasn't already gotten you this, and you still have a Super Nintendo, then you need to get this game for your collection.
