Irem Skins Game Review

Irem Skins GameSome of you might have watched "The Skins Game" which has been on ABC for a couple decades.

Playing off this theme, you have the IREM Skins Game that was released in the early 90's for the SNES.

This game gives you 4 golfers to choose from, which are pretty standard (Power player has no accuracy, Technician has no power but great accuracy, etc).

You can play a "skins" game, a 1 or 2 day tournament, stroke play or match play at the outset.

The gameplay itself is very similar to most games of that era (i.e. "3 click").You have unlimited power shots, but it moves the meter really fast.If you stop it in the red, you'll duff or whiff the ball and lose a stroke.

The course itself is quite challenging, even if you have played it over and over.

Compared to some other golf offerings on the SNES (Wailaie Country Club, HAL's Hole in One Golf) this is a SUPERIOR game.

If you're a golf fan, pick this game up with confidence. You won't be disappointed.

Waialae Country Club Review

Waialae Country ClubIf you've read most of my video game reviews, I usually skew on the positive side of things.

This will definitely be one of the exceptions.

I enjoyed playing this game a LONG time ago back when it was new, but age has not done it any favors.

For starters, what looked good when this game released looks downright ancient by today's standards. The polygons are VERY obvious and the feeling of realism just isn't there.

Secondly, unlike most SNES golf games which give you a top/down view, this gives you more like a diagonal view of where your ball would end up if you hit it perfectly, which makes aiming and adjusting a real pain in the rear.

Things only get worse after you actually hit the ball. Why do I need to see like 4-5 screens to watch my ball come to rest?Others (Hal Hole in One Golf and IREM Skins Game come to mind) don't have these kinds of issues.

If you actually get on the putting green, a graph overlay will appear to tell you what your putt will do, and then it disappears. While this was likely done to give you a more realistic experience, you're all the more likely to be sending your controller into the floor after missing putt after putt.

And your caddy?Doesn't really matter who you select, as saying "keep your head in it, you can still make bogey!" doesn't exactly provide much help on actually PLAYING the game.

Did I mention sometimes you'll see a golfing figure appear and other times you won't when you hit a shot?

If you REALLY want a game that covers Waialae Country Club and you are a really patient golfer who doesn't mind taking 2-3 minutes for EACH SHOT, then you are really the only one I can recommend this to.

Otherwise, run the heck the other way as fast as you can.It isn't even worth $5.

Product Description:
The Super Nintendo Home Entertainment System (SNES) was Nintendo's second home console. Whereas the earlier system had struggled in the PAL region and large parts of Asia, the SNES proved to be a gobal success, allbeit one that could not match its predecessor's popularity in Southeast Asia and North America - due inpart to increased competition from Sega's Mega Drive console. Despite its relatively late start, the SNES became the best selling console of the 16-bite era. NO CASE, NO MANUAL.

Bandai Golf Challenge Pebble Beach Review

Bandai Golf Challenge Pebble BeachThis game originated before the Tiger challenges and the new age video games came to use. It's a basic golf challenge that is tougher than some of the new stuff.

NES Open Tournament Golf Review

NES Open Tournament GolfThis is by far my favorite golf game for the NES. The biggest reason it is so fun is it stars Mario and his Nintendo friends and nemesis. Plus, the gameplay and graphics are excellent for a NES game. This is a game that both Mario and golf fans will enjoy!
