Arkanoid Review

ArkanoidThis game is pretty fun but the problem with this game is that unlike TETRIS or DR MARIO, the levels start to get really, really hard to the point of frustration and the end levels are truly almost impossible.
Your goal is to break the breaks with a PONG-like setting. You get the little paddle at the bottom and you have a bouncing ball and with those you bounce the ball off of the paddle and break the bricks. But be warned because some of the bricks take several hits to break! Don't worry because when you break bricks, you get power ups and extra points as well.
Like I said this game was pretty fun but I assure you, once you get to the higher levels (20+), the game really cranks into super hard mode and it's way too hard. Whereas games like TETRIS and DR MARIO, you have to be quick and think of strategy, in ARKANOID, you have to do that and you also have to have quick reflexes because if you miss the ball, you lose a life.
All in all, it's pretty good for advanced gamers for younger and inexperienced gamers should stay away from this one. If that happens to be you, check out TETRIS and TETRIS 2 and DR MARIO. Again, hard game but fun if you're looking for a good challenge.

Ultima III: Exodus Review

Ultima III: ExodusThis is actually the NES adaptation of the home computer game Ultima III: Exodus, but is called Ultima I for NES since it was the first Ultima adapted for Nintendo. Confusing, isn't it. I have played both the Atari 8-bit (which I owned and enjoyed for many years) and NES version of this game (which I only rented to see the difference). The graphics for the Atari 8-bit were very crude, as you expect with 1983 technology (1983 was when Ultima III was first made available for home computers). The graphics on the NES version was better (by 1989 standards, when this version came out), but by today's standard might seem cheesy. If you have ever played the home computer version of Exodus, you'll notice that there are a lot of things that differ on the NES version. On the NES you have the hassle of selecting menus to engage in various activities. Plus the thing I really dislike of the NES version is you can't see monsters roaming the land of Sosaria so you'll never know when you encounter monsters. On Exodus, you are supposed to rid the lands of Sosaria of an evil who goes by the name of Exodus. On the home computer version, you are supposed to collect the Mark of Kings, Fire, Force, and the Snake, and gather the cards of Love, Sol, Moons, and Death, while finding out where to dig for exotic weapons and armor. You must explore all the townes, castles, and dungeons to get important items and information. You'll also need to fight monsters, which will leave behind a treasure chest (which is often boobytraped with acid, bomb, or gas, which a thief in your party can disarm, depending on dexterity) which often has gold which is a big requirement if you want better weapons, armor, as well as food, torches, gems, and powder. Also when exploring the dungeons, the deeper you go, the more dangerous it becomes (particularly the most dangerous monsters, like dragons, daemons, and balrons, are found on the lowest levels). You have to watch out for winds that'll blow your torch out, gremlins that steal your food, traps that might damage your party. In my opinion, I prefer the home computer adaptation, since I loved the convenience of keyboard control, rather than menu control, not to mention, it looked less like a game machine game, and more of a computer game. Not to mention the NES version only came with a wimpy little pamphlet, while the home computer version came with the cloth map of Sosaria, a wizard's spell book, a cleric's spell book, a book of the realm of Sosaria, and a player reference card (that tells you the different keyboard commands). Exodus is basically a historical curiosity these days, but was a really great example of how RPGs were like back in the 1980s. But in these days of Nintendo 64 and Sony Playstation, Ultima: Exodus might seem like a big disappointment, especially in the realm of graphics, but if you bear in mind this is from the 1980s, and you know the technical limitations of the time, you're bound to enjoy this.

Wizards & Warriors Review

Wizards & WarriorsTodays generation of gamers are exposed to WAY too many sword-slashing adventure/action games on the Playstation 2 and 3, along with the Xbox.It sickens me to see so many games that have the same exact gameplay.

Wizards and Warriors, however, was influential back in the days of the NES, and clearly stands above other games from the same time period. That's because the play control, graphics, and music in the game are all exceptionally good. You won't have ANY trouble moving your character around the screen. The graphics are on the same level as Super Mario Bros. 3, and the music... well, let's just say, the music is so good that a rock band actually covered some of the themes. To me that's proof I'm not the only one who found the music interesting.Other people out there noticed the memorable music, too.Years later, I can still remember a few of the themes.

The game throws in a LOT of enemies for you to battle throughout each world you visit, but it's not like this makes the game difficult. You see, for some reason, the game offers you infinite continues, and you CAN'T DIE unless you simply refuse to hit the continue button.I will never know why they made the game this way.

It doesn't matter, though.Wizards and Warriors is one of the best and most original sword-swinging adventure games you can find for the NES.The fact that the levels you visit are actually giant worlds for you to walk around killing everything in sight, including jumping up high on platforms to find secret areas, makes this a truly wonderful game overall.

Pirates! (NES) Review

PiratesIf you're into the pirate thing, you definitely want to check this game out.The game centers around the Caribbean and you start by picking your nationality, skills and time period. Then, its a matter of gaining as much gold, land and fame (or sometimes infamy)as you can before you get old and are forced into retirement.Whether its running missions for governors, being a bounty hunter, following up on treasure maps or just plundering all the towns along the coasts, there's a lot of fun to be had with this game.Oh, and if you develop enough 'prestige' with the different nations, their governors will start introducing you to their daughters (!!).. and the wealthier the town, the better.. ..I always tried to marry the red-head, but she's hard to find :D
But like I said, after so long, you get old and are basically forced to retire at which point you are given a final ranking... I was never able to get the top ranking, which I think was becoming a governor, but I got 5th place once which was a 'sugar planter' .. oh well, just call me sugar daddy I guess. Overall, a very good game for the nes that will never play the same way twice.

Product Description:
Ahoy, You Swarthy Gold Swiping, Ship Sinking Sea Dog! Modern warfare is no match for the fierce realism of six historically accurate seventeenth century pirate raids along the Spanish Main. Aye, Matey! That's why plundering and pillaging are back in style, as you command the role of a high seas high-jacker. Either an English Buccaneer, Dutch Adventurer, Spanish Renegade or French Explorer, each with a different skill level and strategic impact. As a swashbuckling scoundrel, you'll barter with enemy merchants, trade for hidden treasure maps, negotiate with unscrupulous governors, and forge alliances with monarchs who'd just as soon stab you in the back than float you a loan for new ships. But that's only half the battle! You'll also assault towns, sword fight with garrison commanders, lay siege to forts, and fire your cannons broadside at an armada of naval foes, including Spanish War Galleons, Dutch Frigates, French Merchantmen and English Sloops. Arrrrg, Me Swabby! Don't think it's all fun and destruction. Because if your bloodthirsty crew isn't kept happy boarding and burning enemy vessels, or if your navigation skills leave them shipwrecked on a jagged Carribean reef, they won't think twice about using you for shark bait. Fortunately if events do take a nasty turn, you can save the statistical loot you've captured and return with a vengeance on another day. So keep your eye (the one that doesn't have a patch over it!) on your ultimate objectives - power, fame, prestige, gold, land, and the hand of a beautiful maiden - and you'll find the sailing smooth and your "red beard" scraggly!

Commando NES Review

Commando NESthis game never gets old, simple gameplay and fun levels make this very entertaining...obviously its an original NES game so the graphics are of that time but the ability to go in and just kill soldiers in your way is a lot of fun...finding the secret staircases and getting the super grenade represent little things that make you want to replay after beating the game...the only slight negative is that bullets do not travel that far...i know its an old game but to have a bullet evaporate .1 of an inch right b4 the enemy gets frustrating, especially in later levels when a lot of bullets are coming ur way and you need to be stealth in your approach...but otherwise this is a blast and one of my fav all time NES games

Dragon Warrior (Nintendo NES) Review

Dragon WarriorDragon Warrior is a game of complete skill and strategy because the player has to figure out how to get to a town without dying and gaining experience at the same time. The object of the game is to defeat the dragonlord, no more to be said except that it is hard to get a high enough level to beat any minion of the dragonlord and himself.

The controls are the easiest to tell and learn, the controls are the following:
A button is the basic action it does everything, the player press A to bring up a menu of commands. In a fight it comes up automaticly.
B button cancels a command.
Start pauses the game.
Use the control pad to move the character.
Select does nothing.

This is a really fun game and I would recommend this game to people who still have a NES(Nintendo Entertianment System).

Legend of Zelda Review

Legend of ZeldaThe Legend Of Zelda is an important milestone in video game history. It was the first of it's kind--it combined action/adventure with puzzles and some role-playing elements.Even nowadays, there STILL aren't too manygames like this.I recently purchased this game and I must say that unlike many old video games who have lost their luster over the years, the Legend Of Zelda is still just as fun to me as it was when I was a kid. What else is there to say about this classic game?If you own an original NES, you MUST have this one!
A word of warning:If you're buying a used copy, I suggest getting a gray-colored one instead of a gold one.Yes, the gold ones look cooler and are the classic issue of the game, but they're so old that the internal memory (which stores your quest data) may be worn out.Get a gray copy just to be on the safe side.
