Double Dragon II: The Revenge Review

Double Dragon II: The RevengeAnyone that has a Nintendo Entertainment System and two controllers should have this game. It's a co-op beat-em-up and one of the finest 8-bit games ever created. You play as one of two brothers looking for your kidnapped girlfriend.

The levels are great. You fight through factories, car lots, and rooftops. The rooftops has to be one of the best levels on the game as it contains a platform feeling to it. The game features a variety of weapons, from knives to baseball bats. Nothing says beat-em-up though like team damage and throwing your friend off a building to his death. The only awkward thing with the game is the kicking. When you kick, you are actually kicking backwards. It's not a glitch, but it's something that has to get used to.

The game is fairly long and difficult, but not too difficult where you can't complete the game. The ending is extremely hard, but that's how games worked back then: hard bosses. Any fan on beat-em-ups, arcade games, or co-op gameplay will enjoy the magic displayed in this classic game.

Seicross Review

SeicrossBack when I was only about 10, my best friend had Seicross, and I liked it A LOT.That was back in the glory days when the NES was the ruler over all the other systems on the market.I looked for Seicross for years, but I couldn't ever find it.A new store opened up a few years ago that sold used NES games, and after almost 10 years of searching, I finally found Seicross.Needless to say, I bought it right away.
Seicross is a sort of racing/action game, but really, there's not any racing involved. You have to control a guy who is on a spacebike and use him to destroy other cyclists, rescue hostages, and more. But that's easier said than done. Not only are there a bunch of other cyclists who aren't that fond of you, but there are alien-like enemies and several towers that shoot fireballs at you.Not to mention that if you run into a wall or other border, that you will lose a life.It only takes one hit to destroy you, with the exception of the cyclists, who just bump into you as if you're a bumper cart.
While playing Seicross, you are always equipped with a basic shooting weapon on your bike.If you shoot certain aliens or collect a certain item, you can get an upgraded and better weapon.Since you are riding a bike that isn't exactly a bicycle, you will also have to collect enough fuel to keep the spacebike from running out of gas.
Seicross is a 2D side scroller. It has a mixture of bland and well done, colorful graphics. The sound effects aren't anything special, but they get the job done well enough. The music tracks can be catchy, and the control is just right. As for replay value and fun factor, it's sort of a mixed bag.
Seicross is always fun to play, but unfortunately, it's a little too hard. The levels are all long and full of enemies all over the place.Once you get to the end of a level, it shows you how many hostages you rescued, and then you go to the next and even more challenging level.
Even though Seicross is too hard, for some reason, it's fun to play over and over.In other words, it can get real addictive. If you're looking for a fun game for your Nintendo, I recommend getting Seicross.Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Seicross is a 1-2 player game.If you play a 2 player game, you and the other person will take turns playing.

Spy Hunter Review

Spy HunterThis is the classic top down racing game that first appeared in the arcade. I'm not sure who is the spy and who is the hunter, but you drive your slick white car and a set of machine guns that can shoot whatever is ahead of you. Along the way, you can drive inside of big trucks that will power up your car with other weapons like oil slicks and smoke screens. These have limited uses, but now for the objective.

The objective is to keep driving, seriously. Because it is an arcade game, the game never ends. Paths fork, and send you to some new scenery, but that's it. On the way, there are dark blue cars on your tail though, thick blue cars that are bullet proof and try to ram you off the road. There are cars with tire slashers that will send you spinning off the road and exploding in the scenery. Long blue limos will try to shoot out your tires and finally, helicopters that drop bombs, leaving holes in the pavement.

There are other vehicles on the road, that are not a dark blue color. They are more like innocent civilians that you can still blow away if you choose.

To change the driving of the game there is a point where you can turn your spycar into a spyboat with a new set of enemies. That really sums up the game. Goes on forever, driving along the same road with the same enemies. Its a classic, but not much more fun than a few plays.

Product Description:
A conversion of the arcade game, Spy Hunter is a driving action game played from an overhead point of view. Your car is equipped with machine guns to help you get past the numerous enemies out on the road (be careful not to shoot any civilians, though!) Occasionally you will come across a weapons van, and if you drive into the back of the van your car becomes equipped with a second weapon (such as smoke screen, oil slick, or missiles.) At several points the road splits and you can enter a boathouse which transforms your car into a boat temporarily. If you drive far enough the seasons change as well (watch out for icy conditions during winter!) The enemy cars will do anything to stop you, including running you off the road, firing guns from the back of a limmo, or dropping bombs from a helicopter.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game Review

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade GameOk, this was 20 times better than the first Ninja Turtles game. What was Ultra/Konami thinking when designing the first game!?I'm not goin' strike at them hard because of the graphics, but the unfair difficulty, lack of actual Ninja Turtle characters, different abilities of each Turtle (making two of the four useless), and lack of connection with the cartoon series made the first game less than mediocre.Although the first game was a hit, Ultra Soft and Konami knew the messed up and they promised that the sequels will have better gameplay and characters, designed for younger kids (main target audience of Ninja Turtle fan base).

Ok, I do admit that the graphics were far inferior from the original arcade release, but a 8-bit console has techinical limitations and the game had to be designed to fit in with the limits and it has. The NES version's graphics were advanced for its time and it followed other arcade gameplays with only a few, but better exceptions.Adding two new levels was innovative (along with advertising Pizza Hut - you get a free pan pizza coupon with the purchase of the game), and so was adding three new bosses. Some of the original levels were longer than in the arcade version, but it was fun and a bit easier than the quarter sucking machine. Best thing of all were the choice of ninja turtle characters from the cartoon, with a few made up mini characters and bosses like Torra and Shogun.Rock Solider leaders, Granitor and General Tragg were the main bosses, Krang was the second to last boss (finally), you get to fight Baxter Stockman in not only human form, but also in his mutated form (instead of a rematch with Bebop and Rocksteady - probaly due to technical contraints for the NES), and Shredder may be more difficult than in the previous game, but you won't get bored in fighting him and the clones and wacking them several times with three different turtle moves (make sure you get the right one and watch out for his ligthing bolt sword).Instead of firemen, butterflies, flying robot heads, and all the other BS made-up enememies from the previous game, you get to battle hundreds of multi-colored footsoldiers whose attack and choice of weapon is unique with its color (this continues for the next two games). They also ride in helicopters, motorcycles, vehicles and skateboards.Other mini enemies include Mousers (of course), Roadkill Rodneys (from the second episode of the cartoon), Tubular Transports (flying robot flies that were used as Shredder's survalience on the third episode of the series), flying knife throwing ninjas, tigers, and more.

The levels were real fun (especially the expressway mini level where you ride your skateboard and knock out the foot soliders. The overall game was exciting and innovative and still is.The only flaw about this game is not adding a four player co-op like from the arcade (The NES just released a NES Satalite that allows two additional players in select games, so there was no excuse for not adding Turtles 2 and 3 to the list).I still play it in my old NES, so those that don't have an NES, get it for your Virtual Console, once they release it cause its fun.I will gurantee you that the third and fourth game are much more fun!!!

Paperboy Review

PaperboyThis was a pretty good transition from the Arcade game to the home system. PAPERBOY was pretty fun game for what it was. You are the local paperboy and your job is to deliver the paper to the designated houses but while you're on your route, you have to watch for dogs, lawnmowers, cars and other obstacles. And at the end of each route, you get a bonus round for some extra points.
Really though, this is a very simple game and the basis of it was also really simple but when it all came down to it, it was fun. I will admit for the advanced gamer, you probably wouldm't have as much fun because of the game's easy gameplay. But for younger gamers and beginning gamers, this was great for them.
I really only suggest this game to younger gamers and beginning gamers because it's just way too simple for the advanced gamer and I almost guarantee you, you'll get bored after a while (advanced gamers). If you're looking for other Arcade games that hit the NES, check out TMNT the Arcade Game, 720 and GAUNTLET.
