Equinox Review

EquinoxI have not played this game since it came out in the 1990's, so I'm working off very old memory. It came out three years after it was initially announced, but still had a MAJOR bug in it that forced you to restart the game after getting about 80% of the way through.Anyone starting out on this game should consult an Equinox guru, before getting halfway through, to learn how to avoid this problem.(This bug is the only reason why the game doesn't get my fifth star.)Otherwise, Equinox is a huge, attractive, challenging, but not impossible 3-D dungeon romp. The ability to save every bit of progress you make is a great leap forward from its NES predecessor, Solstice, which, lacking this feature, is for platform aces only.

Worth trying to find a copy.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Review

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doomindiana jones and the temple of doom, what can i say? this gamehad a lot going for it since the movie good, but alas, it was not ment to be. the first time you play the game, you bigin to knowtice something, the games messed up. when you jump, you fall down. at first, i thought it was natual to fall, but then you realize the only way this is possible is if indiana was climing, which makes no sense. another thing screw up is the way you change weapon. it's awkward and annoying having to reach over to the select button and push up, down, left or right just to swich weapons. it dosen,t even pause the game. and since the screens are looped, you going to get confused faster than indiana jones would. theirs more i can talk about, but it's not worth it. the game is fun, for the fist 10 seconds you play, but it soon falls apart as you go on.

for your own sake, don't waste you hard earned money on this garbage.

Battletoads Review

BattletoadsAt the time this game was notorious for its inability of most of the general public to get past level 3.Most kids at the time just couldn't.And for a game that has it's content so well designed for kids (a TMNT rip-off, 'toad tongue-in-cheek) this is unfortunate since the dynamics of each of the 12 levels are incredibly varied.Really the game itself isn't a kid's difficulty level.I've heard many deem it the TOUGHEST NES game ever, arguably more so than even Metroid.Because much of it can only be done from memorizing the map (like dodging walls in the speeder / level 3), it will invariably take a few games PER LEVEL.There are no passwords although there are warps (a real gamer won't need them). There's many, many highlights beyond 'level 3' - the Surf level, the giant snakes, the Elevator Shaft, and if you're lucky, the Dark Queen's tower. You'll be doing anything from fighting 'Double Dragon' style to Castlevania-platforming to dodging obstacles in your plane, unicycle, speeder, whatever. The monsters and sense of humor the game provides make the whole thing move magnificently + STILL make me wonder if this has a cancelled cartoon show pilot somewhere...

Bomberman Original Nintendo Review

Bomberman Original NintendoThis is one of those great games that for some reason i forgot about as i got older and moved away from the SNES deck. I found it one day when i was browsing for other titles. I immediately remembered it and purchased it. This game is FUN. It is one of the timeless classics that are so simple yet so fun. You dont have to remember a bunch of buttons with it. You put in it and you play. Hours of fun for the whole family.

Mortal Kombat II Review

Mortal Kombat IIWhen Midway released the first Mortal Kombat to the arcades back in 1992, they probably never thought of doing a sequel. But the game was very well received. For the first time digitized actors replaced hand-drawn fighters, the action looked very realistic and most of all, it took violence in a video game to a standard that had never been reached before. It all lead to the inevitable release of Mortal Kombat II, which is widely considered the best and most original of the series.
The SNES version is probably the best home conversion available. Everything from the arcade version is included, from blood and gore to fatalities and hidden characters. The story behind the game is fresh. At the end of the first tournament, Liu Kang has managed to defeat Shang Tsung and banish him to the "Outworld".
Tsung's master, Shao Kahn, has restored Tsung's youth in exchange for a plan to lure the earth warriors to a tournament held in the Outworld itself. This tournament is none other than Mortal Kombat II.
MK2 introduces a host of new kombatants including Kung Lao, Jax, Kitana, Mileena, Baraka and the now playable Reptile and Shang Tsung. The original fighters return, minus Sonya and Kano. Each fighter has at least two fatalities, plus a friendship and a babality! The old guys have been polished up a bit and given some new moves to match them with the new ones. There are two brand new bosses. The first is Kintaro, who is of the same clan of creatures as Goro from the original, but is far more powerful. The second is Shao Kahn, who's insults are his own downfall.
What the MK series is really known for is the finishing moves, and MK2 manages to satisfy any lust you would have for blood! These make MK1 look tame! Especially violent are Johnny Cage's torso rip, Jax's arm rip and face smash and Baraka's blade lift. New to the series are Friendships (in which the winner shows his friendship towards the loser) and babalities (in which the loser is turned into an infant). Three new stage fatalities are present as well! Two brand new secret characters are present and will appear during the game giving various clues. They are of course, Smoke and Jade. Unfortunately you can't play as them, but only fight them.
A noticable weakness of the game is the irritating scratching sound that almost always appears when something is announced. The music is also not much in the quality department, but then again, Mortal Kombat was never known for its music. The visuals were pretty amazing for it's time, but will hardly impress anyone today. Controls, though responsive are a bit awkward. The characters tend to slide too much.
Anyway after all these years, it can still be quite addicting. SNES owners looking for worthy fighting games should pick this up. You might also want to try MK3 (but not Ultimate MK3 please...). If you are a fan of Mortal Kombat 4, then you will undoubtedly enjoy this. For the ultimate in SNES fighting games however, consider Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting.

Yoshi Review

YoshiThis is a pretty good game, much like Tetris. There is an original concept though, because little monsters drop down like blocks. They drop down, you do not turn them, instead Yoshi is at the bottom of the screen holding up four plates (to collect the monsters), and you move him around, and pivot these plates to collect the monsters. Its not that simple though, the only way to kill these monsters is to capture them into egg halves that drop down. First get a lower half of an egg, drop a few monsters onto the half egg, then drop the top half of the egg. Then the eggs, squeeze together killing the enemies! Like a verticle Tetris!

Monopoly - Super Nintendo (SNES) Review

Monopoly - Super NintendoMonopoly for the SNES surprised me.I was expecting a cheesy third-rate version of the classic board game, but was impressed at the settings feature before starting a game. This menu allows the human player(s) to make the game as easy or as challenging as desired. It is even possible to start with $30,000.The animations are amusing, although repetitive...but what do you expect? It's Monopoly.I have the N64 version of this game as well and, yet another surprise, I have found the SNES version to be much more fun AND entertaining. This game is worth purchasing and playing again and again.Good job, Nintendo!

Rygar (NES) Review

RygarSadly the PS2 version of "Rygar" is nothing but a DMC clone. The original RYGAR NES was far better than the arcade game.It had depth, challenge and paved the way for action adventure/hack and slash/ RPG hybrids on consoles.

The difficulty was insane thanks to no save points. But aside from that old school flaw, the game is flat out fun and engaging. My fondest NES memories are from staying up all night as a kid beating this game

Product Description:
A hero has arrived to defeat the forces of evil in the land of Argool, and you are this hero. Do you have what it takes? This game was one of the first adventures to hit the NES and the remarkable aspect on top of this was the multiple viewpoints the games offers. When you are in an action zone, the game is a side-scrolling action game; however, then you are travelling between zones, the game takes on an overhead view that can also lead to combat situations.

Mickey Mousecapade Review

Mickey MousecapadeThis game was fun and I recently played it since my Ninteno system crashed in the early 90s.As a child this game was difficult to figure out.The progression of the levels is linear, but within the levels there is exploration and secrets.Your stars with rickoshay off windows or clowds or tree stumps and a bonus or a penalty will occur.Either you get a fairy who gives invicibilty or minni is taken by a seudo flying kuppa.you can escape!
Today I found the graphics just how i remebered them-very good like castle of illusion for the genesis or a 2d mario with more interesting levels andbosses.
I am planning on sellling since i don't have a nintendo but an emulator will also work even thought they are the death of games as we know them.
